Exceeding Github's File Size Limit

I started with a boilerplate nextJS app. Went through the setup process and followed everything to the t. When I try to push go GitHub, I'm getting the error shown in attached image. Did I miss something or do some config wrong? I installed firebase through npm, and after looking at the logs, most of the files are from the firebase directory. Should I add that directory to .gitignore? Is that what I'm missing?

@Southern yellowjacket in your .gitignore add .firebase

Then undo your commit and unstage everything, stage everything and commit again.
