API routes and their servelessness

I'd like to know. The person in the chat told me that api routes are server functions. On some next/learn, but not a new one. I didn't find any confirmation of these words in the official docs. I'd like to know. Are API routes still serverless? Is it possible to disable this serverless functionality somehow, so that it would be possible to work with a normal api server

if you deploy on a server, you arent deploying serverless

is not serverless
@oxmaster is not serverless
serverless is how you deploy something.
I know what the pages directory says, but in fact it's the same as routes handles, only written differently

remember that nextjs is made by vercel
vercel deploys as serverless

To be honest it's confusing because it's illogical. Serverless? So, clientfull? 😉
Of course it's all running on a server.
The terminology is completely illogical. The same with cloud or other buzzwords.
why cloud and not a balloon?
;D

well, it's not like next was invented. Servleess is like a separate architecture on a par with microservices and monoliths
Brown bear
But it's using servers
so it's not serverLESS
that's what I mean it being illogical
@Brown bear But it's using servers
oxmasterOP
servers and api creation using next.js? Or a server on net.js/express?
Brown bear
server is a computer that is in some building - a physical machine with a processor, ram, etc.
oxmasterOP
oh, well, they are on the versel server like the database, but they are called serverless? Is this illogical?
@Brown bear that's what I mean it being illogical
its a lambda function. being pedantic accomplishes nothing. serverless simply infers stateless in this context.
Brown bear
that's your opinion
I stand for what I said
serverless hosting is an illogical term
there is nothing like a serverless hosting.
because the server is what hosting is 😉
Here is a definition: A server is a computer program or device that provides a service to another computer program and its user, also known as the client.
If you don't have a server you can't provide a service to another computer program and its user, also known as the client. 😉
serverless is a poorly chosen marketing buzzword, probably by some manager or marketing guru.
it should probably evoke LESS money spent or something 😉 when in fact - if you get big you are better of to pull your own infra on Hetzner servers or something.
I do it even for smaller websites, not an issue at all. Hetzner for life. 😉
You are ranting on a pedestal and no one is listening

Many people will read this.
I don't write it for you.
we all know that its a buzzword. We have more important things to do in life than be a pedant over a buzzword
Brown bear
😉
Again, I disagree.
good for you.
Brown bear
But we can still be friends.
ill leave the chat and you can rant to a mirror lol
Brown bear
No, I will go as well. Bye for now. 😉
