It seems to me that if you have a hobby account you don't have access to gitlab, but if you create a team you do.

I don't know.
I'm on GitLab too and haven't had to pay.
On the other hand, it seems to me that you can have a single team without having to pay.
In any case, it allowed me to connect GitLab to Vercel and above all to see my repos.
