Error intercepting routes

I am receiving the following error when using a <Link> to navigate to a route I am intercepting in layout.tsx.
Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information).
I am able to intercept the route properly When I navigate to the route directly in my url (it loads the page without interception), then navigate away and use the <Link> to navigate to the intercepted route (it gets intercepted properly)
I have a default.ts within my @modal directory. My modal page is app/@modal/(.)action/page.tsx which corresponds to the default route in app/action/page.tsx

Updating to the latest canary release worked for me, but perhaps I just needed a full server restart?
